Why Twitter? Come on, everybody’s doing it. . .

Many of you may already be following us on Twitter, and I invite you to Tweet with me at BTSMarie.  If you’re not yet an avid Tweeter, or still uncertain to what it’s all about, please check out this article posted on 10/27/2008 at TechCocktail.com called Twitter Tools for Community and Communication Professionals.

The article explains that Twitter is growing at a rate of 250,000 to 500,000 users per month, up 440% from last year.  The site receives roughly 2.5 million people each month, so you can see that it’s obviously becoming very mainstream.  It reminds me of the early days of the Web, when people wanted to have a Web site basically because ‘everyone else was doing it.’  Like the Web, you’ll soon find a great benefit for joining Twitter (but do plan to invest a few weeks observing and finding people to ‘follow.’)  It’s different than other social media tools because each ‘tweet’ or post is limited to 140 characters, but once you get used to that you can find a rich and often entertaining exchange of ideas.

The online article on Twitter Tools, referenced above, details over twenty (20) different Twitter-related tools that will help you to navigate through these social media pathways.  There also was a comment to the article where one very helpful reader offered a list of over 30 Twitter tools and descriptions, located at http://tinyurl.com/twittertools.

If you’re ready to venture into the Twitterverse (or even if you’re already a resident), be sure to check out these two articles.  Let me know if you find any of the Twitter tools to be more useful than the others, or if you know of some that didn’t yet make the list.
